Costa Brava, Spain (Tuesday, June 23, 2015) – The Virgin Kitesurf World Championships (VKWC) Youth Cup 2015 will be held at Camping La Ballena Alegre – Costa Brava (Spain) – from June 27 to July 2. For the third edition, young talented kiteboarders aged up to 16 years old will gather with their families and friends on the beautiful Mediterranean beach of Sant Pere Pescador.
The organizer of the event, Panxo Pi Suñer, stated: „Welcoming a stop of the Virgin Kitesurf World Championships here is really significant because it highlights the spirit of the camping. We love sports and family and thanks to mellow thermal winds we always have great conditions for kitesurfing with 12 to 20 knots. That allows children and their relatives to enjoy riding together in a safe place. This year, we have 42 pre-registered kiteboarders from 17 nationalities and the youngest participant should be 8. They might be young, they deliver a very nice spectacle! The most important to me is the learning format we use. Judges explain their way of scoring and it helps the kids to understand. I deeply believe in the philosophy of sharing, integrating and learning that will be a cornerstone of their future athlete lives.“
The competition will focus on freestyle discipline and judges will score heats by overall impression. There will be four age groups for each gender:
Youth U11: born in 2005 or after
Youth U13: born in 2003 or 2004
Youth U15: born in 2001 or 2002
Youth U17: born in 1999 or 2000
As the organizer pointed out, the Youth Cup 2015 is meant to be informative as well as competitive. In this aim, daily clinics will be provided by the VKWC crew prior to the start of competition in order to increase rising generation’s knowledge in the kitesurfing field. These sessions will inform young athletes about how to best manage their career, image, skills and strategies within the kiteboarding industry, in addition to address the new contest format.
