The Virgin Kitesurf World Championships (VKWC) third stop is just around the corner and will be held in Tarifa at Playa de Los Lances (Carriles). From the 10th to the 19th of July, the top competitors will return to the Mecca of kitesurfing to pursue their race for the world title.
The Andalusian city is located on the Southern tip of Spain, alongside the Strait of Gibraltar in between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean sea. As expected, forecast looks promising, announcing a great windy week of Levante – one of the main winds of this renowned venue.
The competition will involve 24 male and 12 female riders in freestyle as well as in big air discipline. There will be qualifiers for the big air. As for freestyle top seeds will confront Tarifa’s challenging conditions together with two local freestyle males – Noè Font Castells and Maximilian Gomez – and a local freestyle female – Rita Arnaus – who have been allocated wildcards by the event organizer.
Oswald Smith (ZA) will also join the contest as he will replace French rider Julien Leleu who suffered a knee injury and will be out for the season.
Before the competition starts, a white night is scheduled on Friday the 10th at 9 p.m. (GMT+2), where the Mayor of Tarifa – Juan Andrés Gil García – will officially welcome this leg of the Virgin Kitesurf World Championships.
Regarding the Tarifa Guinness World Record attempt, which will be part of the event, the number of competitors is close to beat the record and it will be moved to the 18th or 19th of July to succeed. Sign up at the Best shop or on iz.com (20 euros) to be part of the legend!
For people who already signed up and can’t participate the 18th or 19th, there are three options : they can go the Best shop to get a refund, they can pick up their official lycra at the Best shop, or they can donate the registration fee to the preservation of the Estrecho Natural Park.
