WKT YOUTH CUP 2016 – COSTA BRAVA (SPAIN)

Costa Brava, Spain (Thursday, 26 May, 2016) – The World Kite Tour (WKT) Youth Cup 2016 will be held once again at Camping La Ballena Alegre – Costa Brava (Spain) – from June 27 to July 2, the same exact dates as last year. For the fourth edition, young talented kiteboarders aged up to 19 years old will gather with their families and friends on the amazing spot of Sant Pere Pescador.

The organizer of the event, Panxo Pi Suñer, stated:

„Welcoming a stop of the World Kite Tour here is really significant because it highlights the spirit of the camping. We love sports and family and thanks to thermal winds we always have great conditions for kitesurfing with 12 to 20 knots. The success of this competition is the spot that allows children and their relatives to enjoy riding together in a safe place with great conditions to practice watersports. This year, we have kiteboarders from 17 nationalities and the youngest participant should be 8. They might be young, they deliver a very nice spectacle! The most important to me is the learning format we use. Judges explain their way of scoring and it helps the kids to understand. I deeply believe in the philosophy of sharing, integrating and learning that will be a cornerstone of their future athlete lives.

The competition will focus on freestyle discipline and judges will score heats by overall impression. There will be four age groups for each gender:

  • Junior U11: born in 2006 or after
  • Junior U13: born in 2004 or 2005
  • Junior U15: born in 2002 or 2003
  • Junior U17: born in 2000 or 2001
  • Junior U19: born on 1998 or 1999

This year we extended the age limit up to 19 years old. This way we will enjoy the show of some of the youngest riders competing in the Senior Tour.

As the previous years, the Youth Cup 2016 is meant to be informative as well as competitive. In this aim, there will be daily clinics provided by the WKT crew prior to the start of competition in order to increase rising generation’s knowledge in the kitesurfing field. These informative sessions will show young athletes how to best manage their career, image, skills and strategies within the kiteboarding industry, in addition to address the new contest format.

From June 27 daily results, pictures and videos of the event will be uploaded on WKT’s Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts. Follow us to be updated.
